Supporting Our Community Through Crisis:
Update on Flood Relief Efforts from the team at Tushinde

In recent weeks, our areas of operation in Mathare and Kiambiu have faced severe challenges due to unprecedented rainfall from the end of March to mid-May 2024, resulting in devastating floods. This natural disaster has impacted over 3,000 caregivers, including 100 of our directly supported beneficiaries, and, tragically, we have also mourned the loss of lives.

During these trying times, the support from JW Seagon has been instrumental in providing immediate relief to those affected. Our comprehensive response included:

  • Emergency Rent Assistance: Helping families move to safer grounds.
  • Provision of Beddings: Distributing mattresses, blankets, and beds to those who lost their belongings.
  • Emergency Feeding Programme: Serving over 2,500 meals to support the wider community.
  • Psychosocial Support: Offering counseling services to help people cope with the emotional distress caused by the floods.
  • Food Packages: Ensuring families have access to essential food supplies.
  • Educational Support: Assisting children in resuming their education smoothly.

These efforts have been critical in helping our community navigate this challenging period. Your continued support has not only facilitated these interventions but has also brought hope and resilience to the families we serve.

We’ve included a photo to show the extent of the water levels and shared an article from a British newspaper that details our community’s resilience and our collective efforts.

We are deeply grateful for your ongoing commitment, which has allowed us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need. Together, we continue to work towards overcoming these challenges and building a stronger, more resilient community.

Thank you for standing with us during these critical times. Your generosity and support are truly making a difference. Your support is vital, and together, we are making a significant impact.
