Kilifi Gold Triathlon 2025

Last weekend, six of us from JW Seagon took part in the 2025 edition of the Kilifi Gold Triathlon #KGT2025, an event with which JWS has a long association of sponsorship. We entered two teams this year, with each member taking on either the swim, cycle, or run leg.

The day started with a downpour, but by race time the skies had cleared and the sun beamed down on the majestic Kilifi creek. Over 200 participants partook in the event in successive waves. The swim kicked off in true triathlon style with a melee getting into the water. With arms and legs flailing everywhere, it took a moment for the swimmers David Nolan and Vivian Wambui, to settle into their rhythms. They faced a strong current on the outbound swim, but rode it on the way back in. The cycle took our contestants, Titus Ndalila and Brian Ngari, through the stunning Wilson Farm, which lends to the KGT organisers boasting this as “probably the most beautiful triathlon in Africa”. Special mention here goes to our courier, Mzee Titus, who swapped his usual motorbike for a mountain bike — and handled it like a pro, despite never having ridden one before! After our runners, Sidney Ouma and Bob Maina, crossed the finish line, we rounded off the day with a well-earned evening at the beach Club at Mnarani, giving us the chance to connect with our JWS Watamu colleagues and catch up with the Kilifi locals and as well as a number of clients who had travelled down from Nairobi.

Huge thanks to the organisers, the Kilifi community, and everyone who cheered us on. Also, a shout-out to The Accessibility Institute, the charity which the KGT2025 supported this year, and who do wonderful work providing mobility to those with disabilities.

All in all, a memorable day of sport, camaraderie, and community. Already looking forward to next year.
