It’s all in the small print!

A famous expression and one, sadly, that people often ‘come a cropper’ when dealing with insurances. Policyholders think they are signing up to one thing and then, at the time of making a claim, they were either misinformed, or maybe they had not read everything they were supposed to.

At JWS, we try to be as open and clear as possible with our clients, ensuring they have a full policy wording as quickly as possible, plus also a summary of cover, outlining the basics of the policy, sums insured, values, limits, excesses, warranties and exclusions. This has been received well and we hope it makes our clients understanding of their cover simpler.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you all to look at your policy covers closely and ensure that you know what you are buying. As many of you know, JWS has developed their own suite of Commercial and Domestic policies, and we are confident, these are the widest covers available on the market. Unfortunately, people often buy policies because of the price, but you should be aware, that there can be significant differences between one policy and another.

For example, do you know, that on local Commercial Fire policies damage to anything inside of your premises by rainwater is excluded, unless the roof is damaged at the same time? Or, on Motor insurance you could be contributing between 2.5% and 20% of the value of your vehicle for any one loss? And on Household insurance, if you go on holiday, or leave your house for more than 7 days (whether you have staff or not), you may not have any cover at all? These are what we call ‘small print’ and these are common in the local market, so be careful…there are competitive rates out there, but are they ‘value for money’?

We understand that it can be difficult to know whether you are making the right decision so in order to give you added confidence in the JW Seagon products, we have produced two comparison documents on Motor and Household insurances, comparing our policies to a selection of others in the market. I hope you will find them informative and, as normal, please contact us if you have any questions or concerns – [email protected].
