10to4 Mountain Bike Challenge: Love, Sweat & Sore Legs
While most people spent Valentine’s weekend enjoying chocolate and candlelit dinners, the JW Seagon team consisting of Edwin, Kelvin, Immaculate, Joy and Lydia chose a different kind of romance. One involving mountain bikes, 39 km of rugged terrain, and a deep, emotional bond with our saddles (and the pain they caused us).
We tackled the Slide category of the Tropic Air 10to4 Mountain Bike Challenge, descending from 10,000ft to 4,000ft through scenic farmland, the breathtaking Ngare Ndare Forest, and finally into the Borana Race Village. The ride was nothing short of spectacular, and gravity was on our side most of the way, but so were bumpy trails, sneaky uphill sections, and a few unexpected “technical difficulties.”
Some of us suffered multiple punctures (because apparently, the rocks had a personal vendetta), while others discovered mid-race that their brakes had decided to take the day off. But in true JW Seagon spirit, we powered through, and we weren’t alone! Along the way, we met some of our amazing clients, who didn’t just cheer us on but stopped to help us out mid-race.
To those clients, you were our heroes that day! Your kindness, generosity, and mechanical expertise kept us rolling. Moments like these remind us that JW Seagon is more than just a company, we’re a community.
But this wasn’t just about the ride, but the cause JW Seagon was proud to support the Mount Kenya Trust, contributing to wildlife protection, reforestation, and the conservation of this stunning natural habitat. Every turn of the pedal, every dropped chain, and every slightly panicked moment of “how do I stop?!” was a small price to pay for helping preserve Mount Kenya’s ecosystem.
By the time we rolled across the finish line legs wobbly, bikes battle-scarred, but spirits high we knew we had spent Valentine’s weekend in the best way possible: giving back, pushing our limits, and bonding over shared soreness and mechanical failures. Would we do it again? Absolutely. After all, nothing says team spirit like collectively struggling to walk downstairs the next day.
